He had a younger brother named Ganesh Khakhar. He was married. Reportedly, his wife lives in the USA.

In 1987, Sameer Khakhar debuted with the Hindi film ‘Jawab Hum Denge’ in which he played the role of Kulkarni.

In the same year, he appeared as a rich man in the Hindi translation of the Kannada film titled ‘Pushpak,’ which was a silent film. In 1989, he played the role of Iqbal in the Hindi crime drama film ‘Parinda.’ In 1989, he played the role of a drunkard in the Hindi film ‘Rakhwaala.’ He appeared as an orphanage manager in the Hindi film ‘Dhartiputra’ released in 1993.

In the same year, he played the role of constable Panna in the Bollywood film ‘Hum Hain Kamaal Ke.’ In 1994, he played the role of Kewalchand in the Hindi film ‘Prem Shakti.’ In the same year, he played the role of Amavas in the Bollywood comedy melodrama film ‘Raja Babu’ in which Govinda and Karisma Kapoor were cast in lead roles. 

In 2017, Sameer Khakhar worked in the Hindi romantic comedy film ‘Patel Ki Punjabi Shaadi.’ The Hindi film ‘Pataakha’ was the last film in which he worked. The film was released in 2018 in which he played the role of Sarpanch.

In 1986, he debuted with DD National’s TV series ‘Nukkad.’ He became very popular after playing the role of Khopdi, which turned out to be his breakthrough role.

In 2018, he played the role of Pandurang in YouTube’s short film ‘Purana Pyaar.’ In 2021, he played the role of Mr Tondon in Zee5’s black comedy web series ‘Sunflower.’

  • In 1985, he appeared in a theatrical production titled ‘Chhunn Chhhun Karti Aai Chidiya’ directed by Imtiaz Khan, elder brother of Amjad Khan. He acted in the theatrical production alongside Amjad Khan.
  • In an interview, he revealed that before working in ‘Nukkad,’ he used to work in theatrical productions.
  • Reportedly, he took a short break from acting and moved to the USA. In the USA, he worked as a software engineer; however, he lost his job in 2008. Later, he returned to India and began to act in theatrical productions. He worked in 3 Gujarati theatre plays.
  • In May 2017, he appeared alongside Lopamudra Raut in a TV commercial for Cricbuzz mobile app.
